What’s Wrong with Movies Nowadays?
It seems like every new film that comes out is either a watered down remake of an old classic, or a dumb animation that looks more like a cartoon than a movie, with a plot that a six year old could write up. I can think of a few reasons. 1: the reality is that as time goes on, more and more plots and storylines are going to be made, leaving less to be created and essentially a creative rut for scriptwriters. 2: Money. People don’t want to see new, good movies, only big brand names that they had seen forever ago, even if it isn’t nearly as good. Fame puts butts in seats, and butts in seats puts money in producers’ pockets; that is the whole point of making movies, after all. And finally, reason number 3: Hollywood just isn’t as good anymore. The scripts aren’t as enjoyable, the acting isn’t as exciting, and producing has turned from a quality game to a quantity game. Now, maybe I’m being too critical; this isn’t to say that there are no good movies anymore, because of course that’s not true. However, I miss going to the theater as a little kid, with endless options and every movie on the wall drawing me to it. Nowadays, I’ve gone to movie theaters with hopes of watching something good, and just ended up turning around and driving back after the disappointing selection of films. Whatever the reason is, I miss the good old days when I could watch a movie for the first time and just be blown away. Maybe one day it will be like that again.
