Why Are So Many Stars Getting Traded?
This time yesterday I was watching my forever disappointing Yankees get carved up once again by the Boston Red Sox, something I’ve seen a little too much in recent memory. When Rafael Devers hit a home run off of our ace pitcher, I was yelling with all my friends about how bad he has killed us year in and year out, over and over since we play him and the team 13 times each year. A couple hours later, we were jumping with joy when Boston traded Devers away for what looked like pennies on the dollar. He has one of the biggest bats in baseball, and was traded away in a sense that had echoes of the Luka Doncic trade for all of you NBA fans out there. San Diego added an all-star piece to an already strong roster looking to compete for a championship, and Boston looked to add more young-ish talent (although talent is a tiny bit of a stretch). While this is something I can live with and will be grateful to no longer face him so much every year, the blockbuster trades revolving around huge franchise stars have been becoming much more in recent years.
