Who Won the NFL Draft?
When discussing which NFL franchise escaped the draft with the most success, a few names come to mind; Broncos. Giants. Cardinals. These are the common names I’ve heard, with a few others sprinkled in the mix. But one team I haven’t noticed get close to the recognition they should’ve, is the Baltimore Ravens. After the #1 ranked defense two years ago had some struggles this past season, they fully patched it up; adding the top ranked safety in Malaki Starks at the end of the first round, way past where most people thought he would land, to replace the departing Marcus Williams; and Edge Rusher Mike Green, who I believe to have the highest ceiling of any DE in the class, to help with their pass rush that had struggled. While there were concerns for both players that caused them to fall to the draft positions Baltimore drafted them in, the upside is there, and could make their defense the strongest it’s been in recent years. In the 3rd round, they added Emery Jones Jr., a tackle out of LSU who has good potential to develop into a quality starter for them in the future, with a good frame at 6’5” 315lbs with 34.25” arms, and the 6th best athleticism score out of all tackles in this very deep tackle class. They went on to add even more high upside prospects in Day 3 of the draft, such as Linebacker Teddye Buchanan out of Cal or Wide Receiver LaJohntay Wester out of Colorado. While there are serious question marks about whether their prospects can actually live up to their potential, the possible ceiling for Baltimore if all of these men develop into the players they can be would be sky-high and more than enough to contend for a Super Bowl for years to come.
